I was going to write a big blurb about the work I’ve done on this quilt today, but I’ll save that for the full reveal.

What I will say is that I am madly in love with it, and as much as it is for a good cause, will be just a little bit sad to see it go to its new home in Kenya.
(apologies for the terrible photo, there is a sleeping three year old in between me and my SLR)
Early this morning a package arrived on my doorstep, some beautiful batiks all the way from the states, just waiting to be cut up and made into a custom art quilt for Marylin and Marita from the Mums and Bub’s market to take to Odede with them and display in the new child rescue centre that her and a great team are working to fund.
I couldn’t resist and got stuck into chopping and sewing straight away, these batiks will form the sunset (or rise?) behind a collection of both Australian and African animals, representing the bonds between the two communities.
It’s funny that despite my leanings towards bright colours in my quilts and fabric choices, this is my first time working with batiks, and they are definitely bright! It’s currently draped over my ironing board until my youngest goes down for a nap and I can start working on the applique, and just looking at that bright shot of orange and yellows is making me feel happy.
Had a great morning at the Port Macquarie Mums and Bub’s Market. Each month it’s growing, both in stall holders and people looking to grab some second hand bargains and beautiful handmade goodies.
Marylin, the market founder, is still working on a layout that will work with the ever increasing numbers of stall holders, but once something is arranged Aisling will be sitting in the same spot each month, so I’ll be easy to find. I’ve also ordered some signage, it’s purple and you can’t miss it, so that should make it even easier!
I’ve also set up a Facebook page! Please join up, say hello and take a look at some of my favourite pages.
Click here for the Aisling Milis Facebook Page!
I will be offering giveaways and discounts for members of the facebook page, all you need to do is “like” it and you’ll be in the running.
Now it’s off to go and break up yet another fight between my sons. We picked up a toy vacuum from the market (a bargain!) and the only break they’ve taken from fighting over it was during naptime – I might put a price tag on them at the next market and see if I have any takers
Home of hip and handmade gear for modern bubs. The proper website is coming very soon, I promise. Shortly you will be able to order to browse through my stock and order your goodies online!
